Hazel "Chata" Salinas Obituary

Hazel "Chata" Salinas, 65, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Hazel was born on March 28, 1960 in Houston, TX to Jesus G. and Rita T. (Torres) Valdez. She is preceded in death by her mother, Rita Valdez and her brother, Guadalupe Salinas Jr.

Left to cherish the memory of Hazel is her father, Jesus Valdez; children, Stephanie (Grant) Ginter, Cristina (Arisbeth) Estrada, Javier Estrada, Nancy (Robert) Pena, Roman Estrada, Tony Estrada Jr.; brothers, Ernesto Gaytan, Cristobal Gaytan, David Gaytan; sister, Norma (Ramon) DeLeon; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Hazel was a graduate of Washington High School. She retired from AM General after many years of employment, and was a member of the UAW Local 5. She was a parishioner of St. Casimir Catholic Church. Hazel enjoyed dancing, trips to the casino, playing Chalupa, reading books, watching movies and oldies rock-n-roll. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Per Hazel’s wishes, no services will be held. Online condolences can be made at sjfh.net.
