Mariano Garcilazo Morales, 83, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Memorial Hospital.
Mariano was born on August 1, 1942 in Rancho La Viga Michoacan, Mexico. His parents were Agustin and Socorro Morales Bedolla Garcilazo. On February 1964 he married the love of his life, Maria Julia Garcilazo.
Mariano is proceeded in death by his siblings, Ipolito Garcilazo Morales, and Adela Garcilazo Morales.
Left to cherish their memory of Mariano is his loving wife, Maria Julia Garcilazo; children, Maria Guadalupe Garcilazo, Yolanda Garcilazo Ambriz, Maria Adela Garcilazo, Gilberto Garcilazo, Abraham Garcilazo, Ruben Garcilazo, Jose Manuel Garcilazo; 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Alberto Madrigal Morales, and Margarita Madrigal Morales.
With heavy hearts, we remember Mariano Garcilazo, as a kind and selfless man who devoted his life to his family.
He found joy in yard work, planting vegetables, and caring for his plants. In Mexico, he loved being “en el campo,” surrounded by animals and the land he cherished. Nature brought him peace and happiness.
He loved his wife dearly and was always supportive and devoted. He treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Whenever family visited, he welcomed everyone with open arms, making sure we were fed, comfortable, and cared for.
He always put others before himself and took great care of everyone around him. His love, kindness, and generosity will forever live in our hearts.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
Visitation for Mariano will be from 5pm to 8pm at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower, South Bend with a Rosary will be prayed at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12pm Friday, February 27, 2026 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 Grace St., South Bend. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
